Understand your blood glucose and eat with confidence.

1 h
From $30 per person

Service Description

This consultation is designed to help you understand how food affects your blood glucose and give you practical skills to manage diabetes through everyday eating. Rather than simply being told what you can or cannot eat, you will learn how different foods, meal combinations, portions and eating patterns can influence your blood glucose response — and how to make informed choices while still enjoying a balanced diet. Topics may include: Understanding which foods are more likely to cause rapid blood glucose rises Learning how protein, fibre, healthy fats and meal combinations can help support more stable blood glucose levels Understanding carbohydrates and how different types and portions affect blood glucose Learning how to count carbohydrates, particularly if you use mealtime insulin Reading food labels and estimating carbohydrate portions in everyday meals Understanding the role of glycaemic index (GI) and glycaemic load Planning balanced meals and snacks to support better glucose control Managing blood glucose when eating out, travelling or attending social events Nutrition strategies for managing hunger, cravings and portion sizes Supporting healthy weight management where appropriate Understanding how physical activity, sleep, stress and meal timing may influence blood glucose Identifying practical dietary changes that fit your lifestyle, culture and food preferences Setting realistic short-term and long-term goals for sustainable diabetes management For people using insulin, we can help you understand carbohydrate counting and the relationship between carbohydrate intake, meals and blood glucose patterns. Any changes to insulin doses should be discussed with your treating doctor or diabetes care team. The goal is to help you understand your own glucose response and develop the knowledge and confidence to make better food choices — without unnecessarily avoiding carbohydrates or following an overly restrictive “diabetes diet.”
